Simply Put Legendary Vacation Summiting One Of The Most Spectacular Roads In The US
I can’t tell you how amazing my husband, Victor, is. He literally drove our family of six to Denver so we could ski a mountain legend! Arapahoe Basin (or A-Basin to the locals) offers some of the highest ski terrain available. Unbelievable. Now, mind you, we travel on the cheap and my brother was gracious to give us his home for the week. As a result, we were lucky enough to summit LOVELAND PASS, which some consider one of the most dangerous, yet spectacular roads in Colorado. Its elevation of 11,990 feet above sea level is said to be the highest mountain pass which stays open during a snowy winter season. And let me tell you - the drive is not for the faint of heart. With a steep, steady 6.7% grade, along with numerous turns and hazmat trucks barreling down - the 7- mile stretch can be downright terrifying. Victor drove it six times. Luckily for us, there were no avalanches or heavy snowfall to worry about. The best picture my kids took was a huge orange sign that said
“Warning Backcountry Users. Avalanche Blasting At Any Time Using Long Range Weaponry”.
We are blessed to have this opportunity and hope to go back very soon (keeping my fingers crossed for Spring Skiing!!).
